living room flooring

deciding on a living room floor

Whether you call it a living room, a sitting room, a lounge or a family room, this key space in your home will need a floor that helps to create a relaxing and sociable area, with maximum visual and aesthetic appeal.

It is important to consider any key features already in the room, particularly fire places, feature walls, existing furniture and the general style you are aiming to achieve.

Engineered or solid wood flooring in living areas can really improve the feeling of space in a room.  With literally hundreds of different species of wood  and a variety of finishes to choose from, your living areas can be improved dramatically with a floor that will last for many years  and can  often even increase the value of your home at the same time!

In addition to traditional wood, there has been an increase in the use of bamboo, cork, linoleum and even leather flooring.  Each have their own physical qualities and can significantly add to the ambiance of the living areas in your home.

Laminates and luxury vinyl are other options to consider  in your living areas, most are incredibly hard wearing and have the added advantage of 'imitating' real flooring materials (eg. stone, marble, wood) at a fraction of the cost.

It is probably true that nothing beats carpet for softness underfoot, warmth and for the incredible choice of colours, textures and patterns available.

Carpets containing either 100% or a high proportion of wool tend to give a wonderful feeling of luxury and, if laid on a quality underlay, will last for years and years.  We  offer a unique colour matching service on our Rylux brand of carpet...you bring in the sample colour (from a piece of wallpaper, fabric or anything!) and we can arrange for a bespoke wool carpet to be made for you.   The options are endless.

Carpet technology has really moved ahead in the past few years.  With amazing 'green' qualities and particularly suitable for allergy sufferers, we can offer the  Mohawke luxury carpet range, this is  made out of recycled water bottles to create a soft, comfortable and highly stain resistant carpet.  Ideal for busy living areas where comfort is so important but where we all know accidents involving red wine or coffee do happen!

Natural flooring such as seagrass, sisal and coir have become popular materials to use in living room areas. They have fantastic texture and create a contemporary yet homely feel whilst being robust to the wear and tear of family life.  Available to see in our showroom, the Alternative Flooring range of natural floors has a huge selection of different weaves and colours, which can be fully fitted wall to wall or made into rugs and runners of any size.
